The ECHR cannot directly overturn UK law, but its judgements must be taken into account by UK courts.

The main thing is to work out any legal challenges and fight in court before this can become law. This is what Scope and others are doing. So in reality, the stuff we're worrying about will have been challenged and tested in courts before it becomes law.

I truly believe starmer wants war. He is a war monger like Blair was. But starmer is actually worse.

Reading there MORE welfare cuts coming in the spring statement today. Still no word about any legal challenges to these reforms yet, hoping it will happen soon. Have read that the reforms potentially violate human rights, in which case if they go down this route the option of going to the ECHR will be available

Starmer has no idea what it’s like to have nothing and to just exist every day, no amount of poxy work coaches will change that. My spine is not suddenly going to straighten and my damaged nerves start working again, my permanently dislocated kneecaps won’t miraculously decide to start working, my osteoarthritis in every joint won’t get better. I can’t work. My future is homelessness, destitution and early death.

When they talk about disabled people getting a job show them this, there aren't enough jibs for all the able bodied job seekers without adding us lot into the mix.

But perhaps, just perhaps if they take away all our money and make life unbearable then appropriate jobs will magically fly out of starmers privileged backside!

Thank you . What I don’t understand is in regards to other legislation the echr always seems to be able to use human rights laws. Such as the law stating criminals can be deported if serving a year or more in prison. Yet the echr usually seems to over turn this by using human rights laws such as a right to family etc. so does this mean that the same applies to us in that if this becomes law in parliament if it contravenes the equality law as a disabled group that the echr overrides parliament law . Hope that makes sense .

@scope is this the official thread for the spring statement please

The ECHR can issue temporary emergency judgements to prevent things like, for example, flights taking off to Rwanda at very short notice. I'm not sure if such a judgement also requires a UK judge to rubberstamp it.

Watched PMQs and got Rachel Reeves' statement (or whatever to call it). It's just pathetic. Constant blaming of their previous Government, dodging questions and any MP who raises worries or others' experiences that have written to them about disabilities and benefit cuts, the PM just said "young people unemployment rates are so high!". I'm disabled and also young, why is every argument turned to "young people don't work"? I know why but it's just mental

I hope we are protected by them ie disability a protected characteristic. The echr seems to overrule a lot of other legislation so surely it can for us 🙏

I've created Spring Statement Discussion for now. I don't want to overcomplicate the discussions so we'll see how it goes with having these both open for now but this may change. Hope that's ok all 😊
