Green Paper Discussion (from 24th March, 2025)

Of the handful of interviews I have done in last 15 years, the Asda one was most bizarre.
I of course informed them on the form, that I would need either ground floor or accessible lift, in order to attend.
Paid a taxi to take me 7 miles to the store, not exactly cheap. Turns out the "Asda Magic" (ritual humiliation, very US) was up two flights of stairs, with no lift!
On informing them of my predicament, the store manager was summoned. She wondered whether two strong guys could carry me up two flights of stairs, me sat on a chair!
I declined of course, and she said they would give me an interview at the new store in the city I lived, as it had a lift.
Another taxi took me home, and I immediately logged into my Asda account, only to see a message, saying something along the lines of them deciding not to take my application any further.
I think that was 2011 or 2012. I haven't secured an interview since.

Saw this on X. James Taylor's (Scope) page. I take it the government are not going to wait for the Green Paper responses. It also seems MP's are going to vote on this before we hear from Britain's Economic Watchdog who will not publish the employment impact of these plans until October 2025. (The Guardian).😲

Labour pulled this **** with the AI consultation, so not a surprise. This is just one of many reasons filling in consultations wastes time, and people should respect themselves and not d them. they're like petitions.
Nadine Dorries said it best. The government already made their decsions are noyl do the consultation because they have to (both legaly and to give the illusion of democracy).

the assisted dying bill was voted in parliament last November and quite possibly will be delayed till 2029. And if it does, then it won’t get voted as it’s election year.
I would not be surprised if all these changes aren’t delay till 2029, by when they’ll be dropped as it’s election year.
Lots of things can happen

Another MP who doesn't live in the real world - on BBC website this morning
The business secretary (Jonathan Reynolds):
Reynolds cites minimum wage and pension increases
Reynolds is now pressed on when people will feel better off.
"They are getting better off," Reynolds says - the government is not only making wages higher, but introducing other measures including free breakfast clubs, freezing fuel duty and triple-lock pensions, he says.
At the heart of it, he says, is "running an economy soundly".
He acknowledges there are real pressures on finances, but they are "starting to see the decisions the government has made make people better off".
He's then asked specifically about the government cutting winter fuel payments and welfare eligibility.
Reynolds says the government is committed to making everyone feel better off, and protecting working people.

i'm £500 worse off just with my council tax bill because the east riding of yorkshire council have decided that ESA is now means tested so i only receive a 50% reduction as opposed to a 75% reduction as in previous years.

Subject:Green paper and legislation concerns
Dear hope,
I and many others are extremely concerned about the governments planned changes.
The government don't understand (but of course you will) that autism has many daily life impacts that vary wildly person to person.
I for example can not engage at all face to face, on the phone with strangers, can't cope with any routine change or unfamiliar places.
I need care constantly to ensure My impaired judgement, coordination, memory and understanding do not create major issues for both myself and others. a duty to engage as proposed is simply not possible for many autistic claimants.
If you have time and can take a look at the scope online forum or the comments area of the benefits and work website news section, you'll see the damage and risk being caused by the governments rhetoric, plans and general ill informed knowledge of many disabilities.
Please can you help ensure those affected will not end up in a dangerous position of a choice between ending their legitimate claim and suffering financial hardship just to be left in peace or even worse a very real possibility of suicide
Thank you so muy for your time.
kind regards
Rick
