Disabled people who rely on Blue Badges say they are facing rising abuse and harassment.

According to a recent study of over 300 disabled Blue Badge holders in 2026;

67% experienced harassment whilst using their badge.

32% had been threatened with violence.

6% had been physically attacked.

These shocking statistics were discussed on BBC Morning Live and ex police detective Rav Wilding shared some useful boundary-setting phrases if a disabled badge holder is confronted.

"I'm not prepared to discuss this with you."

"Please leave me alone."

"I have a legal right to use this space."

These statements can shut a conversation down making it clear this is none of their business.

As a disabled person with cerebral palsy I have experienced judgement using my Blue Badge and it feels awful.

This is a huge issue for people with a hidden disability. No one with a Blue Badge should judged or harassed for using a disabled bay.

A Blue Badge is not a perk; rather, it provides disabled people the essential means to access facilities and attend appointments with the same ease as non disabled people.
