I did not know there are so many things available or the car tax discount. Thank you for this information it’s a great help.
As I understand it following the WCA assessment the DWP decide to place you into Limited capability for work group (in which no payment is now made if it was a new application after 2017) or the DWP could decide to place you in the group Limited capability for work and related activity (to which there is a monthly payment).

They will also pay the limited capability for work element if you transferred from ESA and claimed UC within 1 month of the ESA ending and your ESA claim started before April 2017.

I thought there was - I read about something on the turn2us site. When I had to go from a joint to single claim I saw something about health in my statement but it did disappear a few days later.

Yes - in my case they said I had no limited capacity for work. So I have asked them what job I can do and my doctor has written a letter for the work coach explaining exactly that I can and can't do - she likes to sit there and bark commands at me - now she can fight with my doctor!

I'm not sure what exactly you read but there's never been any premiums available on UC and there won't ever be any sadly. This link will confirm my advice is correct. Scroll down to the 2nd paragraph. https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-8494

Sorry I was actually thinking of housing benefit which is of course part of UC so that's where my confusion came from. I have to top up my rent by 120 a month so I'm hoping the premium if its available will help to plug that gap.

The housing element of UC is just another element added to your monthly payment. There's no SDP available at all under UC.

May i ask if you're under 35 and currently claiming the shared accommodation rate? Do you live in England?

I had to top up my rent because of the bedroom tax but once I was awarded PIP I now get the disability premium applied so no longer have to pay bedroom tax.

Are you sure that's the reason you're receiving more housing element of UC? There's no disability premium at all when claiming UC. Or are you claiming Housing benefit alone with another benefit and not UC? Sorry but this thread has become extremely confusing.

As mentioned above, if you're under 35 then claiming PIP means you'll receive the 1 bedroom rate of LHA instead of the shared rate, which gives extra money.

Bedroom tax only applies to those in social housing, not those privately renting.

For me (although I know you were asking@KEE I privately rent - I am over 35 and I get the 1 bed rate already (live in Wales - moving to England before next assessment in 18 months time) - it's £100 less than my rent so I was hoping to get extra money to hep cover it.

I didn't come from ESA or anything so it's probably different for me  - and just another reason UC is broken and we need to go back to how it used to be!  Possibly for me it might be under the "discretionary housing payment" you mention in another thread @poppy123456 as my shortfall is just over £100 a month - is that a one off thing or continuous?

I rent private and I stopped work in September 2018 and was fired Jan 2019. Interesting. I do need care but not to that extent - did you register the change online or did it just happen? As it's only been a few weeks since you got awarded everything for you has seemed to happen so fast lol - which is excellent of course

Shortly after being awarded PIP a notification appeared in my journal that “Tell is whether you use an extra bedroom “ I do so I answered yes and then the notification updated to “ completed” status and then the award notification of when from and following that a letter in UC journal explaining what I was now owed.

That's what i thought. As you're renting from a social housing (landlord) then the bedroom tax was applying to you. They decided to award you the extra bedroom because of your needs. This is totally different to those living in privately rented accommodation.

Thanks for that, my question was for both. As you're privately renting then you're only entitled to the 1 bedroom rate and that's the maximum you can claim for your circumstances. There's no disability premium available at all for UC.

You could apply for the discretionary housing payment (DHP) but whether you'll receive it or not will depend on your circumstances and they will assess your living needs etc when you fill out the form. For this you need to speak to your local council. It's only awarded for a limited time but being awarded also depends on your local councils budget.

Yes, i know but it's still the bedroom tax. Your situation is totally different to @pcoventry because they are renting privately.
