I think it's good that those that would like to try working can do so without being penalised. We have a lot of threads on here asking if they can work while claiming UC with either LCW or LCWRA as well as ESA and permitted work questions. Many people are scared of even trying to work incase the work they do goes against their claim.

Oh definitely! It says they are intending to make it much easier to attempt work without automatically having to be re-assessed if the job doesn't work out. Excellent news, as is the help they say will be offered to force employers to be more helpful and fairer to disabled. However, some people have no hope in hell of ever being able to participate in the world of employment and they are worried sick because with no mention of this group they feel seriously overlooked and dehumanised, as is all too normal

I used to work, until last year, but now my health has got so much worse. This concerns me too, I struggle day to day. Mine won't get better, it's not that I don't want to I physically can't. Maybe an hour volunteering I don't know even that a push at the moment

I hear you took me along time to accept I wasn't lazy unmotivated useless to be honest I don't think they can push everyone into work they have to be realistic I'm sure charities unions are working on our side look at Rwanda sunak giving it the large was that deemed unlawful pls excuse my writing mines MH and I worry they class certain MH issues capable of working they have to be careful I remember years ago that they let a mentally ill guy out from hospital he murdered someone so say someone has a serious MH issues and forced to work could actually be safe and health issues for staff

I think he will go ahead with tories plans on changing wca leaving certain question out of wca so yes tightening it what tories said was will start with new claimants first from 2025 and then 2026 2927 work around to existing claimants

I imagine for many as well, they've had such bad experiences asking for reasonable adjustments in previous jobs they just begin to believe there is no workplace that will accommodate what adjustments they need. I've had employers not take my requests for reasonable adjustments seriously, at least until I started at Scope 😁

Remote working really can open up a lot for many people with disabilities. But I firmly disagree with forcing people into work, instead emphasis should be put on educating employers and just people in general about adjustments and what your rights are as a disabled person in the workplace.

How this seems to me - I think I've picked up there are (or were, closed down by cuts), specific schemes to help disabled people into work but the DWP has no power over the average employer, the owner of your local factory or high street shop, so, they can say you ought to work but they cannot make anyone employ you. @Jimm_Scope is this the case?

Can they legally make us work if we have proof we can't surly cant make millions go back if unable to this is the hardest part guessing all the time yes I know have to wait arrghhh

No one can make any employer employ someone and this includes the Government.

If someone is found fit for work and they don't do what is asked of them then yes you can be sanctioned.

As for any possible changes in the future, no one knows anything at all right now so all the questions you have asked can't be answered. You keep speculating what may or may not happen but no one knows, including yourself. All that labour has said is "those that can work, should work" and that can mean anything.

No matter what happens @Catherine21 there would be many people fighting such a thing. Yes, we don't know what they mean by "Those that can work, should work". However, there are many other protections that we have. The Equality Act contains protections to disabled people that would prevent discrimination.
