Quick question about this because I'm a bit confused.

I've not received a letter yet but when I do, do I need to have ID? I don't have any photo ID at all.

Thanks in advance.

Yes. You will need 3 forms of non-photo ID if you don't have any photo ID.

I don't remember that being on the list. I have a Blue Badge but that wasn't accepted. Photographic ID is generally drivers licence or passport.

Though if that is the only piece of ID you have with a photo on, then you'd still need the 3 pieces of non-photo ID anyway.

    Thanks for the responses!

@vikki66 that's going to be a big problem for me because I'm agoraphobic among other things and I very rarely leave my home and I certainly wouldn't be able to attend the job centre because ours is located in the city centre where it's busy. I am in SG.

I guess I'll have to wait and see what they say when I do switch over. I have read that the can also do home visits.

There are 3 options for the ID verification.

The first is attending a job centre - completely impossible for some of us!

The second is a biographical phone call. Which is where they ask questions that only you should know the answer to. (Not entirely sure what the questions are, as I can't use phones either)

The third is a home visit. So if you can manage that one, that should be possible for them.

I can't do any of those. I might be able to be in the room with a benefits advisor doing the phone call for me as long as I know what the questions will be. I'm so worried about all this.

I think I'd have to go with the home visit but I don't like being near people period, the only person that I can tolerate is my son.

Yeah it's very stressful isn't it Meg.

Why is all this necessary why can't they just transfer us over to UC without having to apply and check everything

Do you have anyone that could take ID to the job centre on your behalf? That person may be asked to provide ID for themselves as well. And the job centre may need to see a picture of you holding the ID.

This has changed recently as far as I can tell. They now need to 'see' the claimant in some way, which is where the photograph comes in. Though it is still possible, as I've just done it that way.

Short answer is because it's a poorly designed system. We have to start a completely new UC claim just as everyone else does. Only once it's been started does the data from ESA get sent across to UC. It is ridiculous, but it's not going to change any time soon, so we just have to try and adapt to it one way or another.

I think my therapist is going to be really busy when all this kicks off...

I'm trying to get this medical centre that I'm registered with to take my mental health fully seriously, you request a letter with specific things and they don't add them, they miss off all of your treatment and just fixate on meds, they then fixate on my agoraphobia and don't seem to listen to when I tell them I struggle to speak to people both inside and outside of my home, I also have a complaint and concerns about my medical records which has been going on for 2 and a half years, I've literally had to explain on my recent PIP review form about me having issues with them and not actually seeing a GP since 2021 just in case they want to contact a GP again.. the medical centre is ridiculous and I'm now needing to ask my advocate for help because the staff is ignoring the fact I'm housebound and need a communications partner. I've also just declined a "support" letter because as I've said, it's not got specific things that were requested.. the list is endless, I can't switch because the medical centres are all just as bad here.

Pardon that, I really needed to have a rant.

Received my migration letter today, I'll start switching over next week.

I'm assuming that I need to mention that I'm currently in support group and that I'm housebound and find it difficult to speak to people?

    Hopefully it all goes well.

Yes. Fill in the online forms first. Then you'll get an automatically generated appointment in the journal. At that point you can explain that you're unable to travel to the Job Centre and let them know your preference. Hopefully they'll be able to accommodate.

Once the application has been made, add a journal note to say you are migrating from ESA Support Group.

It takes a few week for ESA to talk to UC and confirm your status. You might see odd messages about Fit Notes etc in the meantime.

Thanks for the responses, I shall do as you've both suggested :)

Fit notes, I hope not, the medical centre that I'm registered with is useless at the moment lol.

If you migrate over from Esa I don't think you need a fit note.

Bizarrely the dwp are still sending out Esa review forms Esa 50, to people.
