Energy voucher + electric blanket - flummoxed!

Hi folks,

Fantastic help from Scope this winter, they're giving free energy vouchers to help with heating costs AND an electric blanket to keep you toasty! Just go here:

https://www.scope.org.uk/des-vouchers-blankets

But could someone from Scope give some advice? Maybe I'm being daft but I'm not sure what a "credit meter" is (I've posted a question on email but the auto-reply came back might not be answered until after Xmas).

I have a normal standard meter, the dials go round recording how much electricity I use and I pay by direct debit. The application form is confusing me as it says "a credit meter (a credit, or standard meter, is one that constantly records your energy usage and where you are typically billed once a month)".

So am I right thinking I have a credit meter? Or is this something else? Could one of you lovely Scope people explain?

Whether I qualify or not, great stuff Scope : )))

@IndignantPigeon a credit meter is one that you pay for your energy through direct debit or when you receive your bill. It's not the prepayment type.

It's not a scam, the link is the scope website, you can see it here.

I have just applied for an electric blanket. Thank you for the post and link.

I will update and let you know when it arrives etc.

    Thank you Scope.

Ohhh, thanks Poppy!! I thought they meant a pre-payment meter or something. That's good news! You get so strapped for money you wonder whether you can afford to buy food or put it aside for the energy bill… I wasn't sure, so first I applied without ticking the box for a credit meter. Then I wondered if I'd misread + applied again, ticking the credit meter box. I'm wondering now whether my first application will disqualify me… Any of you nice people from Scope know??

Hello @IndignantPigeon. It shouldn't do, but I will make them aware of your post here so they can look out for the application. I'll also ask them to look at the wording of the question as it may be causing confusion for other people too (I know I had to look it up too!).

Thanks Morgan_Scope, you've really put my mind at rest! And, yes they really should look at the wording…

I too found the wording very difficult to understand and had to look up what it meant. I pay by Direct Debit. I applied quite a while back but never received any response. :(

Have people on here received any blankets?

Hi infernogrit + whistles, just quick tonight, not feeling up to much… Yes I applied for both blanket + voucher before Christmas too + not heard anything yet. It's probably just that everything's come to a halt over Christmas, I think a lot of places close down completely over the Christmas period now, and they've probably got a lot of applicants to get through. Give it another week and maybe we'll hear something then…

I'll let everyone know as soon as I hear anything. They're certainly taking their time, freezing cold now!

    Hi all,

You can contact Disability Energy Support on:

Monday to Friday from 11am to 4pm.

Has anybody actually heard from Disability Energy Support ?

I filled in the online application form on 11 Dec and haven't heard a thing

Was it a personal information gathering scam or what ?

Disappointed is how I now feel

I applied the day after you and haven't hear anything. I certainly don't think it was any kind of scam, why would scope do that to anyone? They were also closed over Christmas too so that would delay everything.
