It doesn't make any sense, and it's a non-starter. I am about to turn 50, and in the same boat as you. I refuse to worry about things that I believe won't happen.

Not sure if this has already been posted on the thread. There's no paywall on this and you don't need to register any details to read it.

I’m not sure individuals can contact them ………. I read somewhere it had to be done via an organisation, but I could be wrong

    Edit:

I’ve posted some relevant links below

I wonder if a scope member wrote a letter then got as many signaturees as possible if that would be okay (I’m not thinking a petition form……or perhaps I am ) https://www.change.org/l/us/how-to-write-a-petition-letter

I don’t know for certain but I think they are made up of some of the new labour mps made up of starmer loyalists (well ‘labour together’ supporters - Morgan mcsweeney probably picked most of them) who then got carted into safe seats for the 2024 ge

It’s a very unusable move setting up a mp group aimed to support the gov (especially as I doubt they’ve had a chance to read the contents of the green paper this early in advance………..at least ‘normal’ backbenchers wouldn’t of had that type of access.

I don’t think the original friday itv leak was planned by starmer or Kendall (as I don’t think the green paper was due to drop till week of the 18th earliest), and I don’t think they expected it to be such a big news publically with more backlash then expected.

Ever since they’ve been trying to change the narrative amongst labour mps and the public (the official new line being that it’s not fair that some disabled don’t work but get extra money) - I personally think one of starmer’s advisers ‘encouraged’ this gov support group as another way to control narrative and try and portray the majority of labour mps as United (and doing the opposite of rebelling)

usually welfare cuts due for imminent announcements are usually a bit buried (don’t remember any of the sunak/hunt/stride suggested cuts making the front page)

Someone with a better memory will remember precidents better but this may be the largest welfare story to totally blow up in this way

It really seems disability welfare reform for starmers Labour Party holds the same high stakes as the Rwanda scheme for sunaks Tory party

One fear that did pop up is labour adding to any legislation that only top of leak rumors of lcwra awards being cut, that TP could be dropped

however I think the court case that told the dwp to uphold and honour to was pretty recent and would the gov challenge that decision via a law change so soon

My head is going to really dystopian places but would any of us have even considered the content in the itv leaks from last Friday?

It’s all a bit silly season right now, common sense seems to have left the dwp offices and this point even the insane may not be off the table

Ive read many articals, please no changes are certain but if its a freeze, only means its froaen for now, just hope they dont change the system by means testing or somthing worse or the same.

The admin on here seem to be hot on the point so may be able to help. Read the lower rate may be scrapped, but all with long term illness will go on the higher rate, but they may put another benefit for those affected, iam worried sick with you all.

Those who voted this lot in were promise change for the better, they are not fit to govern,

    Trumps puppets,

    @Adrian_Scope

"There are also expected to be smaller cuts including raising the basic rate of universal credit for those looking for – or in – work, while cutting it for those judged as unfit for work, as an incentive for some disabled people to seek employment."

    Source: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/mar/12/keir-starmer-could-face-biggest-rebellion-over-disability-benefit-freeze

So now its clear, when we talked about that article the other day, it is indeed the Basic rate that will be reduced (cut), or at least they consider doing that.

Ok bear with me, carers is in the don't have to look for work group same as the lcwra are they going to be punished too?

I really think they weren't expecting such a public backlash from everyone inc thier own mps the tuc etc

I don’t think the itv links were meant to happen

Even though it’s tough now it may turn out to be a blessing that it did leak and it’s become this huge story/potential scandal

More exposure may give us more opportunities to share things from our perspective rather than the usual inbalance

Green paper isn’t released till Monday earliest

If you have one of the streaming sites (or even the free itv movie night on their app) take a long weekend from the web and have a 4 night movie binge

Some people need a time out in the calm before the storm……….other will need to do so within the aftermath of the green paper

I’m personally planning a long time from politics and probably the forum probably starting a few days after reeves spring statement - I’m trying to do my part trying to be proactive in the next fortnight+ as I’m slowing getting burnt out and I need time to concentrate on things going on in my own personal life)

I think everyone will need to schedule breaks from the forum, social media and google news as the frequency of new articles is recking everyone MH and for those wanting to be proactive about this need to know when to look after themselves

Scope has so many posting figuring out what they can do or offer - I think I mentioned before members need to work together so everyone can take a break and someone else carries on the momentum - a bit like a baton relay race

It need not be a worrying trend as the Tories have tried before to discriminate between mental health and physical ill health and it was shown as blatant discrimination. It is discrimination, obviously and that will be taken to court too. Tiktok is not the best place to look at during all this time.

I agree and I don't understand why anyone would spend all night on Tiktock worrying themselves stupid over posts that do nothing more than scaremongering by random people harping on about benefit reforms when the reality is these people don't know anymore than the rest of us.

Best to ignore speculation and scaremongering and wait for the official announcement.

Well that was thinly veiled, and inaccurate.

In correction I wasn't watching psychopathic agitators, I was listening to fellow disabled people voice their stories and concerns and reading comments left by other disabled people.

I'm intelligent enough not to fall for conspiracy theorists and worry myself "stupid"...

Don't attack people for having reasonable concerns and reporting what they're experiencing, that's just denial.

    I did not attack anyone.

    Neither am I in denial.

None of us know what will happen until we get official confirmation.

I think some people do want to check news as it’s happening and investigate to the best of their ability.. others find that triggering to their mental and physical health conditions? We’ve all got to get through this to the best of our unique abilities. I just see current events as part of a bigger picture. Starmer is building a ‘War Chest’ and ultimately they will need to tax everyone. Attacking the disabled is a part of their universal tax plans. They want to say’even the disabled were not exempt’ before raising taxes en masse. It’s a cruel procedure but all things considered won’t be easy to get through as it stands. The deferment to next week is because they realise this IMO. Everyone who needs breaks, time out from this please do so.. those who need to scroll and check.. continue.

It’s unforgivable that they have caused this stressor to vulnerable people, they are moral vacuums now in my eyes.

he seems to have surrounded himself with MPs that he can bully into doing what he wants. They weren’t expecting this backlash and if the green paper was leaked by someone who didn’t approve of it that would have been a shock.
