My partner is actually about to begin the process of a referral. She's already considering Right to Choose because our area doesn't even say how long the waiting list is anymore. Last information they ever publicised was that it was a 4 year wait, 2 years ago.

I actually have my assessments next week I have been waiting a very long time but I'm terrified I've done the wrong thing by asking for the assessments. I have a gut feeling that I've got this all wrong.

    Feeling depressed if I'm honest.

Why do you think you've done the wrong thing @Strawberry1 ? Isn't it better to find out one way or the other? We're all here if you want to talk things through, I know it helps me when I'm feeling a bit flummoxed by feelings.

I have traits of autism and adhd but I worry I've made a mountain out of a mole hill. I apologise unreservedly @Albus_Scope . Sorry 😞

There's no right or wrong though @Strawberry1 you feel how you feel. I totally get that fear though, my head was all over the place before my assessments, so just be gentle with yourself please.

I know when it comes to the day I will be feeling sick and probably will be sick. I will be pacing all day . I probably won't want to wake up on that day . I will have stomach issues 😩. I will have to try and settle myself down with some breathing exercises.

Strawberry 1, when I went to see the assessment I took this in as a checklist which they found helpful, it is Samantha Craft unofficial checklist female's and autism. It's on line. It's just a list of how you are , I just ticked . Hope this helps you

I am king of the check lists, so @Andi66 is giving some great advice here. It's always good to write down things you want to ask about or things you think you should mention. But please dont worry @Strawberry1 the assessor is there to help you with no judgment and has no doubt had people be sick on the call with them many times before. 😉

Sorry about the struggles you’re having @Strawberry1 over worrying is a vicious circle that feels like it’s never ending! It’s so hard to stop once your brain starts going. I hope your assessment goes well and that you feel a sense of relief afterwards. Plenty of support for you on this group, we all know how it feels to struggle with over thinking and over worrying, so don’t feel like your alone ❤️

When my mind is racing with thoughts because I am fearful of a situation or event I find it helps me to write down my thoughts on paper and then read it back, it just helps unscramble my thoughts and I don’t feel so overwhelmed, which clears my head abit, and then by seeing my worries/problems written down it makes the issues not seem as bad. I also always do check lists for everything, if I have any kind of appointment or interview etc I always sit and think of anything I would need to know or like to ask, and I will write down a list of questions, otherwise my nerves and anxiety takes over and I forget anything I needed to ask.

My partner went to our GP yesterday to ask for a referral for Autism. The GP was actually very lovely. She said my partner was the first adult to come to her with suspected autism and they went through the criteria together and agreed a referral would be necessary. They also agreed about Right to Choose given the waitlist in our area (they stopped saying how long it was after it hit 4 years).

My partner was quite nervous about it, but she's happier now.
