I got a message from UC to sign into my account and it’s asking me about work search. But I’m in a support group . Anyone else got this ?

Good morning, as previously advised, it takes a few weeks for ESA to talk to UC and confirm your status, so for now UC doesn't know you are in the Support Group.
I appreciate you wrote a message in your Journal, but they have to hear it from ESA.
0 -
thank you for the reassurance

can the staff in the job centre see that we claim ESA support group because when I went for ID verification she said for me to get doctors note
0 -
Not until ESA have confirmed your status with them. The UC system is separate to the one ESA uses.
You don't need to get a Fit Note, once UC hear from ESA LCWRA element will be added to your claim.

I had a notification in my journal saying “our records show my name is getting employment and support allowance” but it does not say support group
0 -
when I did my form for UC it asked if I was on ESA and when I put yes it said I didn’t have to provide a sick note

That is correct, those messages don't include what group you are in.

I have now have my 2nd notice, I think the first one was a mistake as nothing happened from it, the first one was for HB only.
This one looks like the real thing as it also includes ESA, it also has a deadline, the first one didnt.
I have read posts here and there on the internet about problems carrying LCRWA over, so it would be nice if this bit was expanded to cover all the scenarios and what to do if its not automatically applied, the law may well say it should be supplied and might say a fit note isnt needed, but what does one do if the DWP deviate from that law, e.g. stopping UC payments because of no fit note and saying can only get LCWRA with a new WCA.
Also looking at the date thing, legacy benefits get paid for 2 weeks past the migration date, but there is a 6 week gap to the first UC payment, is that payment backdated with an extra 4 weeks on it to carry on from last legacy benefit claimant or is it the case X amount of weeks effectively has no income.
So as an example lets say you normally get the equivalent of £300 a week with HB and ESA combined. A nice rounded number to make this easier.
2 weeks after migration you get £600 plus any outstanding amount before the migration date from legacy benefits, then its closed.
4 weeks later you should get (lets assume entitlement is exactly the same on UC) £1200 from UC.0 -
The LCWRA element will 100% be included from the start of your claim. It can however, take a few weeks for ESA to send your details across to UC. Yes, you will be asked to provide a fit note as part of the claims process because you will report your health condition when you fill in the form. You do not need to provide that fit note, you need to stand your ground and refuse to provide one. Your UC payments will not stop.
Remember, you mostly only ever read the bad stories because few people will post if they've had to issues because they have no questions to ask.
Once you have access to a journal you'll need to put a message on there to tell them that you're in the Support Group. Please remember that they will not know this for certain until they receive information from ESA.
There's not a 6 week gap before you receive your money. Once a claim for UC is submitted your first payment is 5 weeks later. As your Income Related ESA and HB continue for 2 weeks, this means there's a gap of 3 weeks without money.
When you receive your UC payment it will be for 1 month and that's what it will be going forward. For example, if you claimed UC on the 15th of the month, this means your assessment periods will be 15th to 14th of every month. Your payment date will be 21st of every month, unless payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday and then you'll receive your payment the last working day before. That payment will be for the period 15th to 14th. (1 month because it's paid in arrears)
You can also request an advance payment but this will need to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced.
If any part of your ESA is contributions based, this will continue but be deducted in full from UC. Your ESA will then be £276.40/fortnight. The amount deducted will be £598.86/month. It seems like it's more being deducted but ESA is a weekly benefit and UC is monthly so to work out the monthly amount you times the weekly amount by 52 and then divide by 12.

Ok what about HB before 2008 transitional protection.
I need to send my new tenancy to my council for my 2024 rent increase, if I send this and they acknowledge receipt before I start the migration, will that be added to the transitional protection? Or is it now too late. The letter seems to indicate if I have a change of circumstances between now and the migration it can cause problems, the letter has all sorts of wording problems.
Also LCWRA included from start of your claim, for clarification do you mean it will be backdated to then, or the component will be there even without them having the information sent from ESA? I have seen a fair few reports where this wasnt done. I always want to be prepared for all possible eventuality's.

What are you doing a benefits review with council ? As I am doing one at moment didn't think of that

Right now I am doing nothing, but I am on legacy housing benefit (the really really old pre 2008 version that hardly anyone knows about anymore), this version of housing benefit will track rents as long as they are deemed reasonable (market rates), it isnt capped like LHA.
The process with my council as I discovered last year, is I inform them my rent has increased and provide them proof, then a bit later, they reply confirming they have accepted the proof and its entered in to their system. However they dont immediately change the amount of housing benefit, I have to wait for an annual review by the rent officer, which for me seems to be around January.
My cut off date for UC migration is really close to my annual rent review, I believed but was not sure, as long as my council accept receipt of my rent increase before I migrate, then even if the rent review officer changes the approved rent after I have migrated to UC, the change would be added to my transitional protection on UC. My situation is not in "the most people" as most people dont have pre 2008 housing benefit, so hardly anyone seems to know the rules on it now. I am really glad I informed them last year, as that led to a very big increase in my HB award as it was several years worth of increases, ideally I would like to know if this is how it works on the migration as it is a bit of hassle to inform the council, and is no point if it wont affect my transitional protection.
I probably will end up not submitting the new rent agreement to the council (UC will get it as its needed as part of the claim), because my thinking now is if my HB claim is closed, then there will be no annual rent review, so I now think my original thought process was wrong. However currently I only have last year's rent agreement, so I either need to wait until I get this one to do the migration or just send them last year's agreement as proof of my tenancy. Sadly the timing of my migration came a couple of months too early. So will lose about £70 month transitional protection. I dont want to wait until there is only 1-2 weeks left to submit the migration, I feel that is too risky.0 -
ESA will need to send the information to UC, which often takes several weeks.
LCWRA will then be backdated to the start of the claim.
As poppy has advised, once you've claimed UC add a note onto your Journal letting them know you are migrating from UC.

Thank you that makes more sense, I accept it will be backdated of course, an example here from someone who didnt get it on their first payment.

I've seen that happen occasionally yes, what might have happened is ESA didn't talk to UC in time, or UC might not have processed the information. I
It generally takes a couple of weeks in the vast majority of cases which means it's added in time for the first statement.

hi , I only did my UC form on Saturday and I’ve already got a letter for Housing benefit saying as from 9/11/2024 your housing benefit is cancelled because you are now in receipt of universal credit . I thought I would get HB for another 2 weeks
0 -
Technically the letter is correct as the hb ended as soon as you claimed UC.
You are also correct though, you will receive one more payment, two weeks worth of hb known as a run on payment.
0 -
thanks . I think I will call them tomorrow to check they are going to pay the next 2 weeks . Is it because HB is paid in arrears ? Also is esa paid in arrears?
