hi poppy
Could I get a bit more of an explanation as the link you provided doesn’t quite add up money wise in terms of fully preserving your current esa full payment (unless transitional protection only part protects your legacy esa amount at the start of your uc claim)?
Everyone on legacy esa ir was paid a personal allowance (currently £90.50 a week)
Those of us in the support group (support component) are paid an extra £47.70 a week
(I’m also in the very fortunate position where I also get the enhanced disability premium (£20.85 a week) and the severe disability element (£81.50 a week)
A calendar month is approx on average 30.4 days (though for some reason the dwp seem to use just over 30.1 days per month in their calculations as far as I can tell)
I’ve taken a screenshot and done some highlighting (I’ve highlighted in black the parts that don’t apply to me as single and no kids) - excuse the bad spelling and writing
The purple and green highlighted parts are not adding up close to where I’d expect them to be if they correspond to the support component or severe disability element (though there’s a couple more sums I need to do to double check it’s not elsewhere in uc - as you said some esa legacy claimants are better off under uc and i may not of factored that in yet)
and I apologise for being a tad ‘intense’ - been caught out a bit and it’s not mixing well with my anxiety and ocd
Thanks in advance 💖💖

@apple85 You have nothing to be sorry for. ESA is a weekly benefit and UC is monthly. There's 4.3 weeks in a month, not 4 weeks.
Transitonal Protection is my downfall and it gives me a big headache. 😂I'll try to give some figures for both.
ESA personal allowance £90.50
Support Group component £47.70
Enhanced disability premium £20.85
SDP £81.50 Total weekly amount £240.55 (monthly amount £1,042.38) This is calculated by multiplying the weekly amount by 52 and divide by 12.
For TP they add up the total amount of your legacy benefits against your maximum entitlement to UC and the difference between the 2 would be your TP amount.
UC amounts..
Standard allowance (25+) £393.45 (replaces ESA personal allowance)
LCWRA element £416.19 (replaces support group component)
SDP TP £140.97
EDP TP £89.63 Total monthly amount £1,040.42 but you will not be worse off so it should be brought up to the same amount as your current benefits.
The purple in your screenshot is for those that aren't currently claiming ESA in the Support Group but their benefit includes the SDP.
The part in green doesn't apply because that's for the disability premium which is £42.50 but only payable when claiming Income Related JSA or Income Support.
Some people advise to use a benefits calculator because it will include TP BUT I used the entitledto one last night and it didn't give me any TP amounts. My ESA includes the same as yours, with the additional carers premium.
Edit to add, happy to be corrected.

Make sure you get a passport or license before you get migrated otherwise you will lose your benefits,....lots of wrong and out of date information being given out.

This is not correct and quite misleading information you’re giving out here. There’s many people that have successfully claimed UC without photo ID. Please see the advice you’ve been given on your thread.

I actually spoke to the CAB about the ID verification. They sent me a link.
I believe that the fast track ID is a passport & probably a driving licence (not sure).
anyway, you can go into the Jobcentre and give the info listed on their website. Others on the forum thread have said that you can do a biographical check, have a relative with a letter from the claimant, and home visits.
Anyway I doubt you’d get a driving licence from the dvla (if you have medical needs) within the deadline of 3 months, or the final deadline date. My licence took over 18 months to arrive .0 -
Posted it now separately as you asked. Please have a look if you have time. I may have missed some stuff as I did leave it for a while so not everything is fresh in my memory now.

hi all, firstly thanks for the great advice pteviously.i have just recieved a letter to change to uc migration notice…should it have said managed migration as moving within the same borough…??thanks
0 -
Are you staying with the same local authority? I'm not sure whether there could be more than one within a borough?
The migration notice shouldn't have been triggered by a move within the same local authority. It may just be a coincidence that it's arrived around the same time.

yes im staying with the same local council.the uc letter came as the same time as the letter cancelling my hb

Your HB shouldn't have been cancelled if you're staying within the same local authority.
It should only end after you've started the migration to UC.
Something has gone wrong here. This isn't the standard migration and you may not get Transitional Protection.
Sorry, I'm not aware of your full circumstances so I don't know whether you would have been entitled to TP or not. If not then it doesn't matter.

I have been told by local office that I have to have a review by phone ,as my contribution based ESA, is migrating to UC, I had a phone appt on 6 march, they did not ring, said I did not attend in the journal, then put on journal I agreed to phone appt on 17 march, I am now 65 yes been in ESA for a few years.
When I asked about review ,I was told , "it is the rules".
I was available for call on 6 march, they did not call. It's so confusing, so baffling.
My pip review was sent into pip office in 7 december 24, and I have heard nothing at all, this is all becoming a bit of a farce for me.
Anyone with any advice???
I also have, along with my wife, custody of our grandson, ho was getting DLA , just had phone pip review, again heard nothing .
Migration of child tax credits (disablement add on) to UC , did the online migration 7 weeks ago, heard nothing.
But....
I got a payment, stating what benefits I receive amount, what they deduct, and a figure sent in the form of a payment of £297:40 for a month, but no description of what it is for, so not touched it , just left in account.
Also any advice would be really appreciated , thank you

PIP reviews are taking as long as 12 months to complete.
The timescale to hear after your grandson's assessment is anything up to 12 weeks.
CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA upon migration to UC.
The telephone call to confirm commitments for NS ESA is a formality that has to be done legally.
If Universal Credit have sent you a payment, that is your monthly UC payment as laid out on your payment statement.
Is there something about the statement you don't understand or disagree with?

UC is something I do not understand at all, I got a payment, but not told for what, I then got a letter from local council telling me I'm getting council tax benefit, I have not applied for it ,as always told I'm not entitled to it. So this UC, has caused me all sorts of worry, as nothing been explained as what payment is for, and that I get next payment 17 march. Totally baffled, but a bit worried too .
Thanks for reply.

i think the reason hb was cancelled is because im moving from private rental to council property and there is a vast difference in the rents……but i dont know??

Within the UC application you can also apply for Council Tax Benefit.
You would need to contact your local authority with any questions as they are the ones who run and pay council tax benefit.
As you are struggling with any understanding of UC I'd recommend approaching a benefits advisor, who should be able to explain things and answer any questions you have.
Scope also offer direct benefits advice

No, that shouldn't have cancelled it.
Both Housing Benefit and Housing Element only pay a maximum of the LHA (local housing allowance) rate. If your rent is more than the LHA then you have to pay the extra. If it's less than the LHA then they pay the full amount. But the amount can change without it cancelling your HB.
I've also just checked one of your previous threads and see that you are getting SDP with your ESA. For that reason you will be worse off on UC if they don't apply the Transitional Protection.
