    'Where were you Da?'

Where were you when I was born
    On the month of December
    One cold grey morn
Did you see my first tooth
    Or my first wobbly step
    Was I ever really known
    As Daddy's little pet?

Where were you when I turned one
    And my Mother bore you
    A baby Son
We were all born at Christmas time
    You, my Brother and I
But where we ever the apple
    Of our Fathers eye?

Where were you when my Brother got in a fight
The Teacher calling him a bold little Laddie
And I tried to read that look on her face
Which said 'Pity..he dont have a Daddy.'

Where were you when I walked down the aisle
I wasnt gona let it ruin my day
But there was a moment..when the Minister said 'Who gives this woman?'
That my imagination..it started to play.

Where were you when I held my first Son
On this occassion I wud'nt be sad
But I cud'nt help wondering if you wuda made better Grandad
Than you ever were a 'Dad'.

Unbeknown to me..I named 3 of my kids
Out of all the names that are listed
I gave them the same name as my half siblings
When I never even knew they existed!

I saw you again when we buried your Brother
Who lived beside us all his life
And I do believe you knew who we were
As you sat beside your new wife.

The Minister said he would like to thank-you ..and your Family for being here
And I wanted to shout. 'THATS US!'
But all the shouting was in my head
And I knew I'd never ever make a fuss.

(Wrote this years ago @onebigvoice...and to this day..Iv never finished it)
    @Sandy_123.. @woodbine @Globster another wee one I wrote
I really liked this one too. Cool!

WOW, how did I miss this?  Did you actually post this?  And they say there is no creative writing in any of us....
I would never try to add to this just yet, and hope that you may write a few more lines.
I could see a competition on here....  may be admin could have a "can you write a poem" section.
where say 1st Janurary to 5 th November people post poems as normal and from November to December may be admin could colate them into one file and allow people to download it in Book Form where I could price up how much to print it. Depending on interest, there would be no restrictions as to how many may be 5 to 6 entries a month, if no one posts in one month it roles on to the next month, there are more than say 5 a week then as long as the total is around 65ish.  I will let admin set the figures these are only examples.

A TITLE:  Competition time.... suggest a title..........
Can I start:  The SCOPE for poems.

This is just something I wrote about yesterday, not necessary about entry to "can you write a poem" but so sad.

    CAN YOU WRITE A POEM.

    Where are we now?

In times of strife, we have to go on

With strikes it’s the NHS that carry on.

They don’t switch off at the end of the day

I’ve never seen them even take a holiday.

We get sick, and ring for a GP appointment

But first you have to battle, that long ring tone.

You go through the various options, you hear,

Only to have beeping, engaged ring tone in your ear.

And when you get through it doesn’t end their

You find all the spaces have seriously all gone

Try again tomorrow, is all that they say

But I’m really ill, and it’s really today.

The news of another life lost, so young and for what

An agreement that wasn’t long, in seconds, all gone

Don’t people realise it could have been them

And the police calling to say it’s you not them.

The senseless loss, of someone so young

What has this boy proven, proven to anyone

His gang members respect him, for what he has done?

This is not a beacon for anyone.

This is no way to earn respect.

An example should be made, out of respect.

But why should it all come to this

No respect for life, it just does not exist.

The laws do not change the way people think

It’s the respect that this generation DOES NOT EXIST

The rules, don’t apply, not to them, they think?

They say Kama will come around, but who will be next

To be found on the ground?

Just take a moment and have a thought

Of all the anguish this loss has brought,

Would you want to be known, as that was her son

Who just didn’t care what he had done.

OH, yes look at me I am the one,

But look at your mum and dad

Are they saying, are you all right son?

Would they be happy, if you were the one that was gone.

There’s only one simple rule to follow.

Would you like that, if they did it to your mum.

So why is it acceptable for you to inflict this misery

And no thought for anything or anyone.

This generation is bought up on video games

Where the idea is to shoot everything at will

To run people over and kill the police

Drug Baron, and bank robber are all part of this.

It also includes breaking into houses

Stealing cars, money and things you have saved

But how does this teach, teach any respect

Or what happens to lives that you have wrecked.

His life ruined, as he has been charged

A life of misery, also for mum and dad.

Both parents reflecting where did we go wrong

But is it their fault, but to survive is to belong to a gang.

Where respect is earned by pain or killing someone.

    So where are we now?

    29/09/2023.

The inspiration is where are we now.
There is no rush for the government to sort out any strikes, why, because while they are on strike, and this applies to every one on strike, no pay is being paid, the same temp staff are being used to cover, " OH yes under safety reasons" is one excuse, so work goes on behind the scenes.
Lip service by the government, " what do you want?" we need better working conditions and a decent wage that does not require me to have two jobs in order to eat.  The offer even if excepted is what you may have been if you had a percentage rise from 10 YEARS AGO? cost of living going up, do wages keep up, NO. the rise is just to bring you up to what you would have had.
There is no way to rean "extra" hours to save for a holiday because you don't know what is comming next.  House mortgages up, rents up, Council Tax up, reduced services up but at the same costs?  Look at the mail: two deliveries a day first and second class, one delivery  one first the second class comming 3 days later, now three days first class 5 days second class, 20 working days to reply? so a letter sent on the 1st of the month would take 30 days to send another reply to the letter sent because they sent you the wrong thing?
Nothing is done there and then or face to face, and even then the correct information is frugal, don't ask the right questions you don't get the right answers.
Life and stabbings?  Its to me all like a video game they all believe that its O K and some where further on they will respawn?
If they believe they like to use a knife, the taken thenm to a abatwar and get them to learn how to kill a cow, and then butcher it, including degutting it like a rabbit or chicken.
Then make them be present when the Corrinor does hes examination of the person they killed, and then when in court make them face the parents or loved ones and explain their actions.
Failure to do any of this add 10 years to the sentence.  Failure to appear in the court for sentencing 10 years added whether innocent or guilty.
Yes I was brought up on a farm, and I had a gun, knife and chopper, my dad said if you kill you eat it, so rabbit hunting was O K by me also killing chickens for sunday dinner.  Yes you first kill is hard but by the time you had skinned it and cooked it it became easier.
Is this where this guy is going? now he has done it once will he go on to reoffend?  Who knows, do you.

I have added this to the poem.  Hope you dont mind..........:

The years that will follow will not ease the pain
This persons life, just gone down the drain.
Her parents will never forget, the loss of their child
And what might have been if she was a live.

A friend, and a family of her own,
could have been a story, now not told,
don't dwell on the past, and lets all go forward
to learn to respect, yes, respect one another.

    OBV.

The only way anything will change is by changing peoples attitude. Its not what I can get out of life, but what you can give to be supportive to others who have or need help now.
We all know some one who has mental issues or has stress in their life now, don't run and hide, visit, even a cup of tea and a chin wag could be all it takes to turn them around, and realise that they are not alone, and can talk to you without being judgemental.
If you can't help well that's O K its the thought of having help or some one to talk to.
The UNSEEN killer is mental stress and illness, that makes people do things they would not normally do.
To think that someone could be driven to take their own lives makes me sick. A cry for help should not result in everyone running and hiding hoping some one else will sort it out. What do you do if it was you.....

    SORRY.... as a pps.
I have just had a reply from my MP about this very issue, and that of the NHS and where it is now.
only one voice?  yes but when you get some one else interested and they tell some one else you get a snow ball effect.
My letter to him was presented to parliament and the reply I had was super posative.  The winds of change are upon us now.  I have asked why the private sector assessments were still ongoing since they were part of the pandemic so the rules that applied then do not apply now, if they did why did the payments being made by the government stop?  Why has the issueing of protective coverings when out stopped?
More importantly, Why are they letting the NHS strike and the PRIVATE SECTOR ASSESSORS are still carrying on and being paid SINCE THEY ARE HIRED BY THE DWP TO ASSIST THE NHS and are not their to BE INSTEAD OF THE NHS?
WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL when on strike and money was tight within the company CONTRACTUAL WORK WOULD STOP.  All jobs that were contracted out would be done IN HOUSE.
AND, incase the private sector say you must supply us with......  Read you contract, under Candour you can be fired at a moments notice, especially when strike action is ongoing.  Once solved you have to renegotiate the contract, and I would doubt whether you will receive such a free Blank cheque this time round being protected by the government that hired you.  Because under the Duty of Care Act they won't be there to protect you as you have never forefilled your side of the contract.
