Does anyone know if the descriptors for the daily living component are staying the same if/when the new plans for PIP eligibility comes into place? I was given 10 points for planning a journey but only a total of 6 points for three other descriptors. I cant remember where, but I think I read somewhere they were taking the planning a journey out as a descriptor which would mean I would no longer qualify for LCWRA.

looks like it’s physical disabilities that will be tested and awarded points and if you have mental health issues that can’t be shown to stop you doing things you will be disadvantaged

This may have already been discussed but I haven't had a chance to read all the posts here yet.
They say they are going to give those on UC extra money if they are looking for work. What will this mean for Carers? We are technically working, and it's usually 24/7 so will our money raise too, or will we be in the 'unable to work' bracket?

    Exactly Durus.....it's all so stupid.

I can see this backfiring big time and costing them more instead of saving them money.

Don't get me started on how discriminatory all of it is....

I'm expecting and hoping for legal challenges and big pushback from disability charities and organisations.

At the moment there are no descriptors that score 3 points. There is currently only 1 that scores 1 point which leads to many people getting 11 points, just 1 short of enhanced. I do wonder if they will bring in a 3 point descriptor.

They are looking at changing some of the descriptors but that wont happen until after these current proposals have been put in place. So probably a few years off at least.

Thats because its all too vague and we need more clarity.

I expect that will come shortly following todays announcement

After hearing Whately speak, no, they are not worse than the tories.

This is all miserable and frustrating for a lot of people but remember that the Tories wanted to give disabled people vouchers and still want further cuts. If they were in power now that is where we would be. Reform UK want to cut all benefits completely, as well as remove equality legislation that protects disabled people.

So in context, unless we can somehow elect a Lib Dem/Green government, this is the best option. Reform in particular like to tell people what they want to hear but they had no real manifesto in the previous election. Tories are not afraid to be more up front but we have already suffered 14 years of their approach to benefits. Did we forget Mel Stride's comments already?

I realise this is extremely depressing to acknowledge, but it's still true. This is NOT as bad as the Tories' plans. Let's be angry, but in context.

I have filled in the consultation. I wrote small essays in pretty much every box. I answered the questions but also covered the things they didn't ask about but should be. The question about DWP safeguarding is a good opportunity for everyone to challenge unfair assessments/stressful appeals/poor communication and the lack of awareness of the impact of it on the claimant…

this is a good point @onlymeagain . I’m no expert on this confusing green paper but at present I didn’t see any comments on carers , I guess it may stay as it is until this relentless govt causes havoc to everyone involved with the vulnerable & disabled people , However I know that carer allowance rates would increase this April from £81.90 pw to £83.30pw. Your earnings rules will also increase from £151pw to £196pw . I know this as my wife is my carer and she keeps a lookout for any changes. Take care!

when I first joined scope forum not long ago threads were a page a day….so the amount this community has grown is amazing in itself. I'm glad we've all got somewhere to go to vent about this f**ckery.

I'm thinking we are a community across the UK that are horrified and will fight this. I've seen so much anger across social media including friends.

love to all, stay strong guys

If you need light relief and you have a sense of humour (don't we all) I suggest you read John Crace from the guardian.

My God they are going to have a fight on their hands I think.

What does everyone think of them bringing in 'direct digital sharing of medical records'(with permission of the claimant) ?

I personally prefer to send in any medical evidence myself, in a way that focuses on my needs and disabilities .

Not sure how I feel about 'direct digital sharing' between NHS and DWP.

Fair enough that it needs the claimant's permission but if any of us were to refuse it would obviously be detrimental to our claim.

I like to be in control of the evidence provided...but that's just me.

Since you're waiting for your UC50 form and still need to provide more fit notes, your assessment will follow the current rules. They’ll check how your health affects your ability to work or do work-related activities. Your claim will be reviewed under the current system, as the changes being discussed here won’t take effect for over a year, if they happen at all.

For questions about your current claim, it’s best to repost in the Benefits and Income category, where someone more familiar with the system can give you more specific advice. This thread is focused on the recent green paper, so your questions might be missed here.
