Autistic shutdown and burnout

I'm neurologically disabled and autistic. Recently, I thought I could do something to help in my community. I've failed. The social and sensory pressures plus physical disability and pain have left me feeling very unwell. It feels like GAD plus total exhaustion. Has anybody else felt like this? I absolutely hate being me.

Hi @Zipz, I'm really sorry you're feeling burnt out at the moment. Please don't feel like you've failed. I'm sure your intentions were all good, it's not your fault if you're unwell or in pain. It's not easy to accept when things don't go the way you were hoping, or when you have to admit that your symptoms have become too much. I've definitely been there before and it can be tough not to feel bad about yourself afterwards.
Is there anything that helps you feel calm or helps you to recharge when you're feeling like this? i hope some of our members can offer some advice and support too.
Hope things start feeling easier for you soon 💙

Hey @Zipz please don't feel too down about things. It can take a long while to get comfortable with new situations, but sometimes it just doesn't happen and there's no shame in that at all. The most important thing is you wanted to help people and you tried. I've been in the same situation many times and yes, it's a kicker, so rest up, you'll come back fighting in no time. Just be gentle with yourself please. ❤️

I have never felt quite like this before. I can scarcely get out of bed. I'm so exhausted.

It can really sneak up on you @Zipz sorry it's happening. But please listen to your body, if you need to rest and do absolutely nothing, then that's what you should do. 😊 I've been there myself several times, but always ignored the warning signs and ended up in bed for weeks. I recommend snacks and Netflix for a few days at the very least.
(I recommend snacks and Netflix for many things to be fair haha)0 -
This isn't getting better. I feel I've lost my limited ability to "navigate " the world.

Sorry to hear that @Zipz but please don't rush things. Burnout can take many months to recover from. It could be worth having a chat with your GP about this and see if they could suggest anything to help?
