I called ESA contribution based number and they said as well you need a fit note because it’s a different benefit, I don’t think anyone knows what’s going on!

does anyone know if you care for someone on UC over 35 hours and don’t claim carers allowance you are exempt from being a job searcher ?

I’ve written in my journal today for an update regarding information sent over from ESA . As I’ve spoken to ESA and they don’t seem to know anything

Ah, if this is for New Style ESA then yes it's a separate benefit. That can't be managed through the UC journal. It's telephone contact only unfortunately.

It's not possible to claim Carers Allowance and New Style ESA together. I don't think they'll accept the Carers Element of UC to remove your work commitment on New Style ESA either. However, because you were in the Support Group of CB ESA, that should still entitle you to Support Group of New Style ESA as far as I'm aware.

Are the equality questions compulsory? Its in my to do, but it also says it wont impact the claim, I have not been requested to fill them in. But they were not in the to do a couple of days ago.

I can already see problems that are going to cause anxiety and confusion for many people.

Seems I got lucky with the quick message I got, but legacy benefits I would get a letter (or if on phone) explained to me, that certain things are going to happen, and if they dont happen by X date to contact the DWP.

With UC, it feels more like you fill in the information, then it just sits there without a progress guide telling you what to expect, for people who are not reading sites like this one, they wont have a clue what might be going on. I had the message telling me to not worry about the work search, that indicated they already have my info, and another accepting my housing costs evidence, but neither explained anything about the transition process or about any time lines.

for reference my commitments are to report a change in circumstances and to do everything on my to do list.

They aren't compulsory. I did fill mine in to keep the to-do list tidy though.

After seeing my commitments with it saying I have to respond to everything on to do, I filled it in, answering dont want to say when possible, only for it to still be there, and no confirmation on the journal, so I guess will leave it alone.

Is it really the case it has no affect on the claim, then I feel instead they should post a link to an anonymous feedback form, but instead these are linked to the UC account.

Whilst I have no need for an appointment on UC, I have just recieved a nasty letter for new style ESA.

The text message said it was just to confirm commitments for new style ESA (thought this was a UC only thing).

    The letter says the following.

Explain why my conditions prevent me from working.
    Provide evidence.
    Agree commitments.
If its inadequate I will be put back in the assessment phase with a new WCA.

Do I just keep quoting regulations over the phone? the problem here they have already threatened WCA. Letter doesnt look automated was manually tape sealed. I assume if I do what the letter says it looks like it will be treated as some light touch review which may or may not trigger a WCA.

They are generic letters which assume the claim is brand new.

They don't account for anyone that is changing from CB ESA as part of the UC migration.

When someone is on both CB & IR ESA upon migration to UC, the IR ESA ends and is replaced by UC, the CB ESA converts automatically into New Style ESA.

You will need a commitments appointment, for NS ESA this will be to keep them informed of any changes.

Thank you Kimmy, I will go with what you said especially as the text just said commitment, but I suggest this is put in the first post, as the letter is scary how its written, and without a forewarning of what it really means there will be very anxious people out there. Hopefully whoever speaks to me on the phone is aware of this, as I dont want a hostile call.

Also the letter is clearly a migration letter, it states I am migrating and is titled about your cbESA, your payments are changing.

I assume you mean after I started the migration process, I would say about a week for NSESA, I got the text I think on Friday.

For UC I wont be migrated over, or rather at least not get first payment until 3rd week December, and will only have 4 days notice of what the payment will be (meaning if its wrong, it probably wont be fixed until the second month), I only found this info out by checking the payments section of the UC page, I wasnt told in the journal.

    (removed exact dates)

After everything has settled down, I plan to make a thread of my experience, pointing out things I experienced that were not mentioned in the OP of this thread. But that probably wont be until January.

The proximity to the Christmas holiday period and after I realised I couldnt do anything about my 2024 rent increase is why I started the process early in the migration window.

I don't think the letter was nasty, more badly worded for those transferring from CB ESA. it's just a standard letter they send to everyone when a claim for New style ESA is made. Although you didn't actually claim it, it's an automatic transfer, it's still a new claim.

We very often get questions regarding this because people worry instantly when they receive that letter.

UC is very stressful I’ve done everything they have asked on my journal but when I write something regarding if they have information from ESA or asking if they can confirm they know I’m in a support group they don’t reply . Today I’ve got CAB involved on a call with UC they said they haven’t heard from my housing when they’ve requested information from them but my housing sent all the information over to them on 14th November. The journal just seems a complete waste of time . In my journal it says I might need an assessment regarding my health which I know I don’t need an assessment because I’m in a support group I’ve asked them to update this and been ignored . So CAB has asked them to call me as a matter of urgency as it’s all starting to stress me out . Apparently they will call me today , we will see
