Reminiscing about old school songs

I couldn't get to sleep last night, and in my hazy headed fog ended up singing songs from back when I was at primary school. Not out loud, I hasten to add.

Was there any better feeling than when the hymn books came out and the piano was wheeled into the assembly hall? We used to sing with all our might, no shame or embarrassment! Just whole-hearted joy.

So let's share our favourite school songs/hymns and go down memory lane.

I'll start, there was obviously the perennial classic Sing hosanna. (Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning). And then.. He's got the whole world in his hands, he's got the whole wide world, in his hands!

Ooft, move over Mariah. Share your old school faves  :D

@JessieJ Oh yes, I googled that one and it led to this BBC webpage and all came back to me.

I'm trying to think of a harvest festival belter, but it's currently evading me - hmmm!

It definitely is a cheerful hymn, @Cher_Scope, unlike some that are dreary.
All Things Bright & Beautiful? We sang that at my dear old dad's funeral.

We used to sing my grandfather's clock too - can you remember that one?

Yes, I remember My Grandfather's Clock. My headmaster at primary school used to get his guitar out & there were several dfferent songs he taught us. Good ol' Mr Mulot, he did a great rendition of Streets of London too.

Morning has Broken was always a good one, and I like Give me Oil in my Lamp too, not sure I could sing either well, mind!
