    Hi

    Hope you are well.
how long after you’ve sent in the UC50 form do they carry out the assessment?

Also when you take your appointee to the assessment does the claimant talk or the appointee ?

    Thank you in advance

    Hi,

The timescales vary across the country. It could be just a few weeks, or up to a few months, depending on the work load in that area.

If you're lucky they'll do a paper based assessment without needing any further input. But if they do ask for a phonecall or face to face, the claimant doesn't have to be there or answer any questions themselves. Though they are welcome to answer questions if they wish, and the assessor will probably prefer to hear from them if possible.

I'm ok thank you for asking. I've been away from the forum for a couple of weeks because I went away on holiday with my daughter. I only came home early hours of this morning.

    I hope you're well.

To answer your question about the appointee, he will be responsible for answering all questions during the assessment and not your son.

Not sure what to do, because of his needs he’s not great at making decisions

Some Supported internships are treated as education if they are not being paid earnings. My daughter did one that started in 2019 and my benefits for her continued during that time.

Whether it’s education or paid work you will need to make sure you report the changes.

If it’s non advanced education then UC students are not a great match. See link https://www.gov.uk/guidance/universal-credit-and-students

It took years of fighting to get the ehcp but if he’s done with education then I need to accept that it will now cease. The other day he said I did think about going back to college but I didn’t know what to do. It’s hard for him to make decisions.

We received a letter from the UC50 form people saying they’ve not received the form but we sent it back on the 9/9/24 with proof of postage (free one)

    What should we do? Please

The letter is likely to have been automatically generated and cross posted with you returning the form to them. You can ring the number on the letter and ask if it's been received and they will tell you. It's probably been received by now anyway and you also have proof you posted it.

    I will ring them Monday?
Thank you for replying , I would have worried all weekend otherwise.

We rang the number on the letter whom gave us the Assesement number who said nothing received and to wait a month if not heard anything then ring back but I said letter says by the 4th October?! He said this was an automatic 3 week letter. So unsure what we have to do next?! UC can’t help and DWP won’t help as you need to speak to UC if it’s about that, we left a note on his journal Friday but no reply to it yet.

Hi poppy! I have a question please, how do I message you? Thanks

I don't give advice through private message, sorry. I'd advise you start your own thread with any questions you have so it doesn't get lost, which can happen when posting on other peoples thread, especially when they are long one like this one.

To start your own thread towards the top of your screen on there right hand side there will be a blue box that says "new post" click on that to start yours.
