No. Is it social housing or privately rented?

    Social housing.

Then as I advised above, you’ll be entitled to maximum housing element. It would only be reduced if you have spare bedrooms.

The dining room is not treated as a bedroom, it’s only a bedroom because that’s what you use it as.

We received a message of our entitlement for the month 5/6-4/7 , we requested our LA our landlord to fill in a UC47 form as requested by UC so rent paid directly to landlord but that hasn’t been done this month but our housing manager is getting back to us. On the journal it says our rent is £48 ish more than it is , could this be due to the way it’s worked out? Thank you.

    Hello

    Hope you all well.

we received a message on our journal, our 18 year old son who will be 19 in august 2024 has just finished his level 2 course and is looking to go back in September to do level 3 and he has an ehcp, it says to report a change if he’s left education, he’s left it for the summer holidays so do we report a change or not? We know the money that’s included in our UC for him will end 31/8/24.
    Thank you.

As this son is also 1 of the 2 children with disabilities I assume that will mean we will no longer receive that part for him too that’s included in our UC?
    Thank you.

If that level 3 is still non advance education then yes it will continue until 31st August. If it's further education (uni) then child element will end in the assessment period in which the college course ended.

To be sure, you should tell them that he's starting a level 3 course in September.

The disabled child element for this son will also end.

Ok , so should we report a change as the level 2 course is finished now?

He is not 100% sure if he will do level 3 yet at college so should we not tell them yet?

If he's not doing the course then both elements will end in the assessment period in which the level 2 course ended.

I think you should be honest and tell them what's happening.

Ok thank you. I just want to do the right thing.
I just wanted to know what the difference would of been if he did do level 3 or didn’t , why the money would carry on til august 2024 if he was doing level 3 but was on summer break until September , I’m just trying to make sense of it to be honest

I appreciate your kind replies Poppy :)

We have reported the change and also put a message on our journal explaining he doesn’t know if he can apply to level 3 until he receives his results in late august.

I phone UC as we got a text to say sign into journal you have a message, we went on but no msg so I rang them to find out what message was incase some how we missed it but lady said no new message so must have been a delayed message from yesterday but she asked why we reported a change when academic year doesn’t finish until end of August, I explained that we had a message and we want to do everything correctly and she said no you didn’t need to so she asked me to write a message on journal to coach to explain in detail which I have. Things just aren’t made clear enough and it sets fear into people who don’t fully understand what UC is about etc especially when you’ve only known one thing for 20+ years.

The advice I gave you yesterday was correct. If your son doesn’t go into do that level 3 course then both elements will end in the assessment period in which the course finished.

The advice that you were given by the call centre person is misleading. Please remember that they are not benefits advisors and it’s not some where I’d ever advise going for any advice.

I did advise yesterday to put a message on your journal, which you said you did.
