Last night I had to take a Nytol as I’ve not slept since receiving the letter, I hate being such a worrier. I’ve tried to relax & not think about it & used tools given to me through the anxiety & stress workshops I’ve done but it’s a lot. I appreciate your support on this site.

Have you spoken to your GP at all about how your anxiety has become worse due to this? It may be then could see about helping with some medication that might help reduce it enough so you can sleep.

    Hello

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I’ve not spoken to the GP because during the day I can keep busy and distract myself but it’s at night when I try to relax , last night was better so hopefully now things are being explained more to me & it’s settling more in my mind of what to expect etc it’ll be more manageable at night.
    Thank you once again.

As tax credits have stopped and then after 2 weeks Income support & housing benefit will stop , what happens to the money we would normally be entitled too, we didn’t ask to move to UC , we were asked to migrate so surely technically we are still entitled to the money we miss out on in the 1 month & 6 days , I’d understand if we had a change in circumstances but we haven’t.

    Thank you for being kind

Tax credits won’t stop until you submit your claim for UC. Once you do that then it will stop and you won’t receive any further payments.

You won’t lose out on anything because you will be entitled to UC. UC is paid 1 month in arrears. Payment is made 7 days after your assessment period ends and you will be paid for the previous month.

For example, if you claim UC today then your assessment periods will be 5th to 4th of every month and payment will be 11th of every month. Unless payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday and then you will receive payment on the Friday before. When you receive payment on 11th that will be money you’re entitled to from 5th June to 4th July.

The same rules apply to everyone whether when they claim UC. UC will replace all your existing benefits.

Thank you Poppy, apologise if I get too much but believe it or not but you really help people here. I certainly appreciate you

You're welcome. No need to apologise. It's a scary process when you're unsure what you're doing or what you'll be entitled to. Once you've had your first payment, going forward it should be easier as payments will be made monthly. The only difficult part would be managing your money monthly. Some people prefer it but others do struggle.

    Thank you.
Is there any possible chance it can be fortnightly or is that impossible ?

You can ask for an Alternative Payment Arrangement after your first payment. See link. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/universal-credit-alternative-payment-arrangements/alternative-payment-arrangements

Please note that not everyone will be able to have this arrangement put into place. Your monthly payment will be split into 2 equal payments twice a month.

Yesterday (11/6) I went to the local job centre plus to prove who I am as I have no photo ID. We will receive a message on the 7/7 with what we may get then 11/7 we will receive payment.

Do be aware that if there’s any entitlement to Transitional Protection, this isn’t always calculated in time for your first payment.

If this happens it will be sorted sooner after that and you will be paid anything extra they owe.

When we moved into the house we are in 16 years ago we were told it was a 4 bedroom (low housing stock of big properties) so we put that on our UC form but today we had a message in our journal to say the housing landlord told them we are in a 3 bedroom so this must have changed due to not being allowed to count the dining room as a bedroom anymore so we updated it, just hope this doesn’t affect us.

    @dannistar
Hi I just wanted to say hello and wish you well with changing over to UC. Im on ESA so will be changing over at some point I’m also very anxious about it.
But seeing the help and support you are receiving from Poppy has asked my mind a little. Poppy is a godsend to this community and she deserves a medal for the effort she puts into helping everyone.

    Take care ❤️

If it’s social housing then you’ll be entitled to maximum housing element, unless you have spare bedrooms.

For privately renting then LHA would apply and how many bedrooms you’re entitled to will depend on your circumstances.

@Lou67 aww thank you so much for such lovely words!! I don’t need medals or anything, just a little thank you and acknowledgement like you did here, is all that’s needed. It’s always appreciated!

When it is your time to migrate if you need to some advice, you know where I am, just shout and I’ll probably hear you 😉 ❤️

So the fact we told UC it was a 4 bedroom but actually now only classed as a 3 will not affect us ?
    Thank you.
