hi I am supporting a Mum with an 8 year old with CP, she has had to get a bigger car to fit her son's wheelchair in through the motarbility scheme. The scheme are saying she has to pay a one off fee of £4000 before she will be given the car, she is a single Mum and cannot afford this, any ideas would be much appreciated?

thanks

Hey there @Taramac and welcome to the community.
I'm not a font of Motability knowledge unfortunately, but I'm hoping some of our regulars will be able to help you soon. @Richard_Scope may have some suggestions though?

    Hi @Taramac

Good to meet you. Is this a specialised vehicle? Motability does have a grant scheme and financial help towards the Advanced payments or any adaptions to a vehicle.

Can I apply for a grant or financial help? | Motability Scheme

You must apply for the grant before placing an order for any vehicle.

Just been through the Motability Grants Process, up to and including the CEO level. Been rejected at all levels. The Grants Process is definitely there, but they are extremely tight with their money, even when you present copious evidence.

Is the Mum on benefits? If yes, she is much more likely to be accepted for a grant. If accepted, they will pay the AP.
However the AP can be paid when the car is collected if no grant is given. If the dealer says no, I'd suggest going to another dealer.
