Forced migration
So last week me and my family have been ordered to apply for universal credit. I'm not sure on so many things, I'm struggling. Work questions, I have a complex medical condition that I claim PIP full award, proving identity, due to the unpredictability of chronic vertigo I can't promise I'm fit to go on a hour journey, payments, the journal says first payment due 19th December, how nice of them, how do I explain to kids, can't get a advance because claim won't be decided until the 15th December, I'm really hoping there isn't a issue but I know there will be, it's how they work ..
Can anyone help me out please with some advice.

Hi,
Which legacy benefits are you migrating from?
If you were in the Support Group for ESA then you don't need to answer any work questions. You will be automatically put in the LCWRA group of UC. There will also be a 2 week run on of ESA.
The identity check can be done online, or over the phone, or at a home visit. You don't need to travel to a Job Centre.
If you were on Income Support then it is a bit different, the payments stop immediately and you will need to complete the Work Capability Assessment in order to claim LCWRA.

Hi thanks for advice, migrating from support ESA group, it's good to know I'll have a last ESA payment to cover a couple of weeks, regarding identity check, job centre just called but only offered a home visit and would delay the claim considerably, it's Christmas can't delay it, so it looks like I'm forced into going, my Wife has appointment straight after so at least I'll have her physical support.

Hey @BrianD72, welcome to the Scope community!
As OverlyAnxious mentions you will still get 2 weeks of ESA payments. So you do still have that at least. Regarding the identity check, I have heard of them offering more than just home visits as alternatives, but it is up to the discretion of the office what adjustments they make and offer and how timely those will be.
Good you'll at least have your wife there. I would also mention to them that you are in the Support group for ESA and so should not have work commitment requirements. Sometimes the information from ESA to UC can take longer than the work coach takes to set up work commitments. So it is best to be pro-active about it and mention it yourself.
Let us know how you get on and do ask away with any other questions you might have.
