Has anyone felt this way after an assessment?

Hi Everyone,   I don't know why but after my assessment I have felt really low, the assessment seems to have worsened my depression and anxiety. I am trying my hardest not to ponder on it, but I go to bed thinking about it, wake up thinking about it and then get very low when I do.

I just felt that the whole of the assessment was based on trying to catch me out and that I wasn't able to talk freely, just a series of questions that were being asked and very weird ones too.   Each time I tried to expand on the answer I would be advised we will come to that section later, but we never seemed to fully get to that section where I could elaborate on my conditions.

I am wondering perhaps if different assessors conduct the interview in different ways. I had little rapport with my assessor if I am honest. The report was sent the next day but I haven't asked to see it, as I don't want to feel more depressed.   Has anyone else experienced this awful feeling of doom in the pit of their stomachs or is it just me?

    Hi @shellbell20

Thanks for posting this, and sorry to hear that the assessment has impacted your mental health. I think that many other people will have had a similar experience in the aftermath of the assessments.

I don't think the atmosphere of them and the way they are carried out help to ease the worries of those being assessed, and of course the many negative experiences that are shared online can play on the mind too.

Take care of yourself, and hopefully you hear back soon and get the outcome you're hoping for.

Thanks, Ross and thanks for your care I appreciate it. I think it is probably normal, just an awful sinking feeling and most likely due to the fact is personal and impersonal if that makes sense. It's very personal when they ask questions about your health and needs,  but impersonal when they read out a list of questions like you are taking an exam or something. I guess it's not just that, it's the stress I have had with the disability work tribunal over the past year too. I feel like I am fighting for my rights all the time, I just wish I wasn't ill and wouldn't have to fight for anything.

I understand that @shellbell20, you've had a lot on lately and it's normal for these things to have an impact. As you say, it can be hard to talk about your condition and your needs but be asked about them in such a way that makes it feel like a test.

I sympathise, I felt the same and also wish I didn’t have these chronic health conditions that stop me from leading a normal life.  I hope you get a decision soon and it is the right one for you.  It is hard to put it out of your mind but try and talk to friends or read, hopefully lose yourself in a lovely story for a bit.
