Scrapping the cap

As a cost of living response the dictatorship government is lifting the cap on bankers' bonuses. But the benefit cap for the UK's poorest families remains in place.

If it was really about the economy or helping people through the 'cost of living crisis' they would raise or remove the benefit cap, not the cap on (the already very high) bankers' bonuses.

Meanwhile we're all told to look down on each other and cast blame on those not working, turn on and judge one another so that we are distracted from the greed and corruption at the top.

Does this make anyone else angry?

It makes my blood boil, bankers already earn enough, and it was them chasing bigger money that caused the crash of a few years ago, the government are not for the whole of the country, just the rich and stunts like this prove it

I agree entirely @Grinchy. I can't at all understand why people continue to believe that they are for anyone but themselves and their super-rich friends.

I wouldn’t expect anything different from the present government, I also feel that this is just the beginning. They definitely have no idea of the current mood in this country.

Sad but very true. It's a real worry.

Furthermore the benefit cap has been fixed since 2016. Had the benefit cap been raised each year in line with benefits themselves the cap would be £200/week higher in London and £260/week higher outside London.

According to the government poor people have to be motivated by making them poorer (through sanctions, benefit cap etc) whereas rich people have to be motivated by making them richer without doing anything (by cutting their taxes).

This is very true and has been highlighted further by today's mini-budget.

I agree a cap should be in place in very certain situations but I think it should most definitely be higher, I also think this subject links in to disability benefit applications and rejections (lifting the cap).

Poorly designed like the majority of things in this country (my opinion).

    An almost evil budget imo.
They will pay at the next election.

Possibly not - they will campaign on the basis that Labour will increase taxes.

We need a clear acceptance that paying taxes is necessary to fund public services and that supporting the disadvantaged is a good thing. However many people don’t think that.

The most extraordinary thing is huge increase in public spending to cut taxes whereas any suggestion by Labour to increase public borrowing in the past to fund infrastructure or public services was attacked as irresponsible.

We just have to live with it, they won the last election, these are the consequences.

It always confounds me that when I started working basic rate tax was 33% and govts of all shapes and colours have reduced it to 19%, it's shocking.
Agreed. It explains the state of public services.

Thankfully.  If Comrade Corbyn had been voted in the country would be in a much bigger mess.

OH YES!!!!!!!!!! I am trying to watch 'stress levels' and stuff like bankers bonuses makes me sick! Is why I stay away from the news or I'd be living in a demolished home. Is good to see another person seeing what I see; that we're all made to squabble and fight amongst ourselves in order to distract us from the real issue. While we all look at the front - it's what they slip through behind our backs that is the issue. Legislation and the loss of human rights, anything that enables us poor people stand up for ourselves is discouraged and when things from demonstrations look like it's gaining ground in support there is always some kind of disaster to distract the focus of us ANGRY demonstrators. How we made to look like the enemy and the real enemy is the evil that is demolishing society for greed and corruption. Couldn't agree more with you @Bamboo
