I'll gladly do a full time job, pity no employers want to hire me; what to do, what to do!

Why do we need protection from having to work?

Surely we should all work if there is appropriate work needing doing, and adjustments have been made to allow us to work. There isn't, and that is the problem!

Thank you for the clarification. I just wanted to note that the phrase used in your original post I responded to, “on the payroll”, can be easily misunderstood without context. It implies that PPS’s are paid for the role, when in fact they are not. That is a common misconception.

I was not being pedantic about your wording, but I do think clarity is important, particularly in forum discussions where not everyone is familiar with the finer points of parliamentary roles or terminology. I was genuinely pleased to see the correct terminology acknowledged regarding PPSs being unpaid. As you can see, this is an area where confusion often arises, especially in relation to how these roles intersect with government votes.

Also, just to clarify, my previous post you have slightly misquoted. I did not say PPSs are required to resign. I said that some have chosen to step down, which is a different point and worth keeping accurate.

The example you gave of Whips involves a different situation, as they are salaried government officials. If they plan to vote against the government, they must resign from that paid role. PPSs, being unpaid, simply step aside. It is a structural distinction, and one that is important to get right.

Don't worry, Tice has to sleep in the same bed as Isobel Oakeshott.

Watch any politics programme and the phrase on the payroll is used. I think I can be let off, quite frankly.

Yes. We should all work if we are able. Who on earth would choose to live on a pittance rather than pursue a worthwhile career path? But some of us are simply too disabled/ I'll for adjustments to be worth a jot. I think back 30 years and the supposed "dot com" revolution. Yet as I found, the bigger the online company the bigger the HQ. Work from home has only been possible for a minority outside of the pandemic. Even that would be top much for me now. I went out for an hour this morning. I've been sleeping or in my chair ever since.

I agree, it's a nonsense for them to pretend there are opportunities out there for us. I just wanted to make my opinion clear that we are emailing our MPs, to protect our vital income, not as a way to avoid working.

If I ever, I mean ever have a Reform or a Tory or a Labour canvasser or representative at this door my mother will give them a piece of her mind and I might get the courage to verbally put them in touch also.

I would love to see that cretin Richard Tice be on 70 pounds a week living in a council estate, not using BUPA and having to rely on the NHS, you know he cheated on his wife with Isabel Oakshott? that's the kind of man he is. Why should this country listen to a word he has to say? Please tell me.

Absolutely no clue, but remember, some find Farage and Oaf Johnson 'charismatic'! The mind boggles.

If the press coined it, who am I to argue? I believe the essential distinctions have been clarified between us, thank you for the courteous exchange.

I think to Conservatives want to target anyone who suffers from stress, autism ect. This makes for grim reading.

The Tories want Starmer to cut even harder and if Reform had their way there wouldn't be a welfare state.

So Kemi's answer to 'people want change' is more of the same awful decisions only worse than before.
