Hi poppy123456! I have applied for carers allowance on Wednesday as advised by an advisor helping us. My partner claims UC so we're on joint claim as we live together, he is on pip as well. We decided to apply as before this year I wasn't allowed public funds but when we reported I can now claim benefits they put me on work search appointments so I need to attend appointments and search jobs though I'm still employed as a bank carer, I've told them this but they said I still need it. My question is, as I now applied for carers allowance does that mean I don't have to do job search anymore?? Will that automatically be updated? Or I need to message them on my journal? Do I still need to do the job search until my carers allowance application is approved? Thanks in advance.

Hi all
Shall I start a new post for my son as originally it was for myself & hubby this post was?
Or can I continue to post here about Sons UC etc?

It's your thread, it's up to you what you want to do.

Thanks Poppy, I just didn’t want to make this post too long and annoying for people that’s all.
So our son has been going to monthly disability work coach his choice so he can have some sort of routine, his appointee goes with him, he knows he’s not required to go but he wanted to, he is still waiting for a WCA.
The work coach asked for an updated CV if he could (no pressure) so with my help (mum & his carer) we did that.
There’s training things my son could do if wanted again no pressure as he’s not required to do so but if my son wanted to would it affect the WCA?
Thank you.0 -
That will depend on what exactly the training is. If it contradicts the reasons why you think he should be found to have LCWRA then yes it could.

Ok thank you. The disability work coach has put it on his UC journal to look at. Our son hasn’t looked at it yet.
Whilst waiting for his WCA can he apply for work if he wanted to?
Appreciate your kind responses, I’m finding things hard at the moment.0 -
I wonder how long it takes roughly for a WCA? I didn’t help that someone lost the first UC50 form we posted so had to re do that.

Each area has a different assessment provider, each company will have different staffing and workloads, unfortunately it's impossible to answer that question.

Thank you

There is nothing to stop him applying for work he is capable of doing by the way! If he does find work he will likely have to explain it against the descriptors on the WCA.

Thank you @Jimm_Scope.
I just feel for him, all he does is sleep or stay in his room. We try encourage him to go out but he doesn’t want to.

Has he had any hobbies in the past at all that he could maybe focus on a little?

We have tried to encourage and promote things but because all his mates work etc he has no one to do things with and has lost motivation. He will not go places alone.
I fear he will slip into a depression more so than he is now, he doesn’t recognise himself as depressed but when you sleep your day away and lose motivation to do anything & hibernate from people since college and routine ended I feel he is in a depression of some kind.0 -
Have you encouraged he see a doctor even though he doesn't recognise himself as depressed? It can sometimes be hard for people to see the mental hole they are in, I know that can be the case for me. I don't realise until I am out just where I was mentally.

I have tried but he doesn’t want to go.
Thank you for taking the time to respond 🙂0
