Morning Catherine21, I don't really know. I assumed it would always be light touch if you have a longer award, but maybe it isn't (more stress to add to the mix). I have a ten year award but it doesn't actually say the words "light touch" on it. I just think that a lot of people (me included) with longer awards are worrying they will get reassessed before it ends and someone on here who called PIP got told longer awards wouldn't be reassessed until the date on the letter. I really don't trust this government so am still a nervous wreck. I am sorry, I don't know any more than you and am terrified. I am just trying to tell myself that hopefully there will be a massive backlash and things will at least get watered down. It doesn't help that there are no definite details. It all seems a bit vague but I dread to think what the actual details will be.

hello everyone and of course (like you) I am very saddened but not surprised at the proposed approach the labour government is taking towards the sick and disabled. Personally I worked for 35 years (14 of which were with severe pain) until it became too much for me and I retired through ill health. I claim contribution based esa (support group) and am worried (like so many others) that this will be taken away from me. Anyway i read something this morning about ESA and the proposed “New Insurance” that I had not seen anywhere else (my apologies if everyone else is aware and I’ve just been a little slow on the uptake) but I could not find any information as to when Labour are planning (subject to the so called consultation) to bring this new insurance in to replace the contribution based support group and an article in disability news (see below for web address) states:
“From 2028, ministers also plan to end the indefinite entitlement to contributory employment and support allowance for those with a recent work record who have been assessed as having limited capability for work-related activity”
no idea if this is accurate / correct but if it is at least it would give people claiming this benefit a few more years to prepare (if possible) subject to any reassessment that could possibly occur during now and I assume April 2028.Hope this maybe helps someone and if not then apologies for posting that people were already aware of.

Someone on here called PIP and they told them that all longer awards will be honoured and not reassessed until the date on your letter. Of course, by then the 4 point thing will be there. The only thing we can do is look at where we didn't score enough points and work on improving it, especially as by then we are likely to have got worse.

NS ESA and CB ESA in the support group, for those worrying (including me!) I know the below statement is vague and needs clarifying but I take some comfort that this is not talking about those of us with life long conditions (I.e.indefinite ESA payments) because it’s does specifically say “for those with temporary and short-term health conditions”.
53. Unemployment insurance would be a new non-means tested entitlement for people who have contributed into the system. It would be created by replacing contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) with a new single entitlement, paid at the current ESA rate (currently £138pw) and will be time-limited. This would provide stronger income 54. Alongside levelling up the rate, this change would end the indefinite entitlement to contributory
ESA for those assessed as having limited capability for work-related activity (for new people claiming). Those unemployed after the time-limited period would be able to claim UC, depending on their personal circumstances. We believe this reform would align with the removal of the WCA, by offering a route to financial support for those with temporary and short-term health conditions, including for those who may not be entitled to PIP and therefore not entitled to the health element of UC. during periods of unemployment for those with a recent work record, while revitalising the ‘something-for-something’ contributory principle in the working-age system. People claiming this would be expected to actively seek work, with easements for those with work-limiting health conditions.

I have been googling like crazy to find out if all 10 year awards are light touch reviews but haven’t really been able to track down an official answer. I’ve been telling myself mine is fixed and will be expecting a full review form so a light touch would be a lovely surprise! If anyone finds out please let me know. I’m not up for phoning them and asking at the moment

You only need one 4. The other 4 point to get a standard award can be made up from 1 and 2 point descriptors. Despite the change, it's still possible to reach 12 points for enhanced DL.

Sorry, should have added that i can't really see how someone who is on CB ESA can have a recent employment record as you can't really work and claim esa at the same time. Hope this makes sense. Just my opinion. Thanks

That's not true - I receive NI credits for being entitled to claim ESA without actually receiving the ESA payments !

do people think who have had a 4 pter on assessment, their ok? Some seem to think this, others think it will change to a dubious 2-3 pts

Im guessing you aren’t getting any ESA CB cause you have another income like a private pension?
If that’s the case, that’s different from what this unemployment insurance it’s all about as you’ll lose your entitlement after a time, which isn’t specified yet

If these proposed changes do go ahead it's going to cause the DWP some serious issues. The amount of claimants they are going to have to reassess will be unreal. I'm wondering if they have completed the DLA to PIP migration and also the ESA to UC migration or is this still ongoing. I'm hoping for all of us that some of these proposals will be watered down. (Fingers crossed).
