Is there anything to stop hundreds of thousands of reassessments from being requested ?

They do say "If your condition changes - you need to notify DWP"

So - if they suddenly were flooded with requests - what would happen ?

They are basically scrapping LCWRA in other words scrapping disability benefits. They have done this so sneakily. This is a very big deal. It's worse than anything the conservatives have ever done. There should be outrage. I don't know why media outlets are not focusing on this.

A party for working people punishing the disabled and most vulnerable who use the money to heat and feed themselves. They have completely rushed this whole thing literally in one day, it doesn't make sense at all. This will cause devastation on the people and the economy. They have not thought this through they are not ready for what is going to come their way if the go ahead with all this. THEY ARE NOT READY FOR IT. They won't get away with it.

Technically Universal Credit is not a disability benefit. Disability benefits are DLA, PIP and Attendance Allowance. The new equivalent in Scotland also counts. Disability benefits cover the cost of disability - they are not related to employment status.

ESA and the LC etc are welfare benefits, they are also directly related to the ability to be in work. They are also means tested. Of course, these are claimed by disabled people, often who are unable to work due to their disability - but they are not disability benefits in their own right. They are tied to/related to income.

This is why people are able to work and claim PIP or DLA, but not usually ESA.

One of the big problems with this whole green paper is how much the media and discussions have conflated these, and thus the implications of cuts to either. It's also why tying migrated ESA/UC to PIP assessments is nonsense.

but ESA CB is not means tested and non time limited

I just saw this old bookmark tab on my laptop so had a quick read, its from 2019. I noticed they were talking about -

''a small-scale test to explore the viability of a single assessment for Work Capability Assessments and PIP assessments'' Did this small scale test ever get carried out ? It would be interesting to know if it was and what the outcome showed.

Difficult to say. Going through the impact assessment, still a long way to finish it though, I found this chart.

It compares the  ESA AND UC HEALTH element figures between the pre-measures forecast, and the post measures forecast.

The decrease in expenditure starts in 2026/2027 when the UC health element reduction takes place. That increase is constant for the rest of parliament. Also bear in mind that they also propose to freeze the UC health element for existing claimants from the same year.

So far what I’ve read in this impact assessment I’m inclined to say that current and new ESA CB awards will remain untouched throughout this parliament. That’s my informed guess so far

Thank you Albus, my bookmark tab can be useful sometimes lol. If that test was conducted and its a big if, I'm betting the results were not what they expected so the theory was shelved, or they just ditched the crazy idea before they even implemented the test 🤣

amazing, hope that someone in legal will ask DWP for the result of that small scale test done in 2019

Had to laugh at your comment! Thank you for making me laugh!

I'm intrigued as well. What are they going to train me as? and who'll really want to take on a 63 year old who's at risk of falling over, can't walk far, can't sit down sometimes because of pain, can't stand up because of pain, takes morphine, so falls asleep, needs easy access to the loo, can't speak well because of breathlessness. They'll be getting a little diamond with me won't they…. 🤣🤣

I'm absolutely with you there. I've felt ill since the Kendall speech, nauseous, not eating properly (don't really feel hungry) and I've already lost weight and that's just in one week. This is doing our health a lot of good isn't it 😡
