I thought whatever would be in the green paper would take years to get put into place, but some of these things will be put into place in April next year, and then the other things in 2028 just three years away.

Hopefully these things will be shot down, watered down, or at least delayed.

@hsm I get why you're surprised but I'm not. When I was fit, healthy and working, I always assumed if I became too unfit to work, finance would the last thing on my mind so gave it very little thought.

I imagine a lot of others felt/feel the same way. It's only when it actually happens that you realise the financial implications, along with the health impacts.

My reward was supposed to be until August 2024, but my review was in Jan 2024, completed eventually in Jan 2025.

I wonder if people who are working are so worried at the cost of living crisis and how it's all affected their standard of living and lifestyle and fears of tax increases coming etc.etc that there's an apathy towards anyone else suffering, especially if they think it's their taxes that are contributing to us that are sick or disabled. And as @Girl_No1 alludes to, people not thinking it might be them one day needing the support.

I've definitely noticed almost a contempt towards people on benefits (online as I don't go out), and sadly, not just from government.

There hasn't been anything said about PIP claimants being reassessed early. Whether your wife loses her PIP eventually will depend on whether she can score one 4-point descriptor and 4 more points made up from equal or lower descriptors. That your wife has an indefinite award suggests that she could meet the new regulations at reassessment. Do you know her present points?

PIP is already very difficult to get now they will make it more difficult. And what will happen to LCWRA and LCW and those that only get that and no PIP? How many millions are they wanting to suffer because of bad management of a system that should be very straight forward. It doesn't make sense at all. How can you merge PIP and LCWRA when they are completely different benefits. It doesn't make sense.

How can you score 4 points for one descriptor and qualify for PIP with a total of only 4. And score a total of 20 and not qualify for PIP because you don't have 4 points in one descriptor. Its worse than it is currently. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

I asked ChatGPT if the LCWRA reassessments have already started and it said this:

The exact date for the resumption of these reassessments has not been announced yet.

Now since it's ChatGPT it could be wrong, but, it does seem to get things right more often than not, so what it has said has helped ease my anxiety a bit. Hopefully it'll be a long while before they restart.

I think they’ll change the questions so hardly anyone will be awarded points . Right now it’s the 4 points but in the future I think it will be harder to get that 4 points . So with few ppl on pip and lcwra gone there’ll be practically no support at all . I hope I’m wrong but this government will continue until they’re stopped

Iam on PIP and OLD STYLE ESA (CONTRIBUTION BASED) since around 2012.

It looks like the esa is being lumped into one and then we would need to apply for UC. But as a household I wouldn't then get any money from UC. I have a partner but that doesn't mean he can support me financially. What do people in this situation do?

Anyone with ESA contribution based, if that proposal goes ahead, seems to be that they will lose their entitlement eventually. As well as any NI contributions for their future pension.

So if you are on ESA contributions based I would reply to their green paper pointing that out/email your MP

It seems to be that is what they're wanting to do. However we need more clarification where it says for 'new people claiming' only? Hopefully we will get this in the coming days/weeks from the government.

    53. Unemployment insurance would be a new non-means tested entitlement for people who have contributed into the system. It would be created by replacing contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) with a new single entitlement, paid at the current ESA rate (currently £138pw) and will be time-limited. This would provide stronger income protection during periods of unemployment for those with a recent work record, while revitalising the ‘something-for-something’ contributory principle in the working-age system. People claiming this would be expected to actively seek work, with easements for those with work-limiting health conditions.

    54. Alongside levelling up the rate, this change would end the indefinite entitlement to contributory ESA for those assessed as having limited capability for work-related activity (for new people claiming). Those unemployed after the time-limited period would be able to claim UC, depending on their personal circumstances. We believe this reform would align with the removal of the WCA, by offering a route to financial support for those with temporary and short-term health conditions, including for those who may not be entitled to PIP and therefore not entitled to the health element of UC.

You can't be awarded PIP with only 4 points. A claimant needs to meet one 4 point descriptor and gain a further 4 or 8 points with other 4s or lower.

It is sad to think a total score of 20 will no longer result in an award because of the need to meet a 4 point descriptor.
