Hi @Greentench. There are other ways to verify your identity, such as online or over the phone. I would ask them for a reasonable adjustment if you're unable to attend in-person.

That's to confirm your identity, which can definitely be done through a telephone call.

Do you think it's too late now to ask? Cos appointment is 11am in morning?

Just got a email saying that on my universal credit journal that I got appointment by phone this Friday to agree a new style employment and support allowance commitment? Don't really understand this cos I was in the understanding that if I was in the support group I didn't need to do this?? I am really confused and very anxious.

This means that pre migration, part of your ESA was Contributions Based.

It now has converted automatically into New Style ESA, and will be paid separately from UC, fortnightly at a rate of £276.40.

This will be deducted in full (598.68) from each UC payment.

As UC is a monthly benefit and ESA weekly, the numbers may initially look wrong, but are in fact right.

You will be in the Support Group for NS ESA, the commitment is usually a formality of you agreeing to keep them informed of any changes.

If any part of an ESA award was Contributions Based, then upon migration it will convert to NS ESA as I explained above.

The person I replied to was in the Support Group, and it applies to the Work Related Activity Group also.

As contributions based (CB) is only paid for 1 year, it’s highly unlikely that someone in the WRAG would be claiming part CB. It would usually be all Income Related.

If any part of your Support Group ESA is Contributions Based, then upon migration to UC it will convert to New Style ESA and be paid at a rate of £276.40 a fortnight.

£598 would then be deducted from each monthly UC award.

That’s Support Group contributions based/New style.

As your ESA includes the SDP and EDP then at least part of it will be Income Related.

If you want to know what your claim is made up of you can ring ESA and they should be able to tell you whether it’s all Income Related or part contributions based.

I'm hoping mine won't come yet, as I'm waiting 100 years for this Esa 50 form to be sorted. It's ridiculous why they sent so many out, if was going to be back logged. I'm hoping mine will be paper based as I sent enough evidence, like my pip review was

Yes , I rang up the dwp and there you press 1 if you sent a esa form in, it just wait until contacted. I think changing the assessors as well has caused part of it, as that had to sorted out.

Liz Kendal should put Dwp shou all migration on hold until the dwp is reformed.

hi all , I’m going to be migrating over to UC in a few weeks time I’ve picked a date to suit me and have untill 20th November to do it . So I will do it on 9th November . I’ve spoken to CAB and they have told me once I’ve completed the application to then sign into my journal and ask if I can be paid every 2 weeks , will this mean on my very first payment I will only get half of the money ? Thanks

Yes, your first payment will only be for half the money. Also please be aware it is twice a month, which isn't quite every two weeks. There will be a few extra days before the second payments in most months.

I was wondering if I should write in my journal after my first payment could I have the payments twice a month . Do you think that’s the better way to do it ? Thanks

You can't request an Alternative Payment Arrangement (APA) until after you've received your first payment. Please also be aware that if they agree to this you'll be waiting 1 month for your payment but then you'll only receive half of that payment. The other half will be between 14 and 17 days later. It can be very difficult to manage your money when it's first set up.

It seems like you can request it anytime but payments won't start until after the end of your first assessment period. Yes, you can request this yourself. I'll copy and paste some useful information from the link above.

    3. More frequent payments

Universal Credit is paid monthly. But in instances where it is identified that a claimant is finding it difficult to budget monthly, they can have their Universal Credit divided over the month to be paid more frequently - twice a month or, exceptionally, 4 times a month.

These can only start from the end of their first assessment period and would, in most circumstances, be half their Universal Credit award, with the remaining half paid 14 to 15 days later.

In exceptional cases they could be paid 4 times a month, for example a quarter of their Universal Credit payment after the end of the first assessment period and the rest paid at 7 to 8 day intervals.

In cases where their Universal Credit includes housing costs, this should be accompanied by a managed payment to safeguard their home.

Who can request a more frequent payment

If the claimant is making the request, this can be by:

    • using their online Universal Credit account
    • talking to their work coach or case manager
    • phoning Universal Credit on 0800 328 5644

thanks for all the information. This is very helpful . I’m so stressed about my bills coming out of my bank and not having the money for them whilst I wait for the first payment of UC
